Questions & Answers
I am going to be building up this blog with useful information to help budding fight promoters, however, it would be most helpful if the many of you already finding this blog were to begin asking questions to things you need help with.
I am willing to answer any and all questions be it regarding state commissions, regulations, how to handle a fight not showing up, you name it, I’m here to help.
I’m in the process of moving right now so by next week I will be up and running and available.
I am also considering adding my own blog videos. Maybe I can answer questions relating to the business in video format?
Let me know what you think would be most helpful.
Thanks!

hey man nice blog. Im only 15 years old and i live in indiana. When i get older maybe 20 I want to start my own mma promtion in fort wayne indiana.I would want to do pro fights mostley. Ive done lots of seaching and it looks like the only one is full contact fight series and they dont even have a myspace page or website. But anyways I wold have alot of up and comming fighters but I also would have guys that have made it to the ufc ifl wec but not big names just guys like keith wisneskei or dan lauzon. I would also want to have special guest who are from indiana like jon fitch and chris lytle. Now here are some quetions I have for you? Do you think it is posiable to maybee get 2-3,000 people for a show in fort wayne? Also how much do you think jon fitch or chris lytle would cost to be special guests? Also I like this blog but do you know of any other blogs or websites on being a promoter becuase I want to get all the info I can? Keep up the good work I like how you went in detail about how to get a cage and all the stuff.

As for other promoters blogs, no, this is the only one, thats why I started this one!
As for special guests, they typically cost between $1,000 to $4,000 depending on the person and their popularity. Guys like Randy Couture, Chuck etc, will set you back 25g’s…and they get it. When Randy was charging $10,000 back in the day, so many promoters wanted him he had to jump his fee up a crazy amount just to slow things down a bit. It hasn’t slowed down and others have followed suit.
From what I’ve found though, if you are a promoter doing Pro/Am events, it’s money better spent bringing in someone from Ultimate Fighter to actually compete. This way, people are getting to watch UFC talent compete without paying the UFC price.
As for your local market and its ability to draw…thats a question only the promoters currently in that area can answer as I’ve never been there.
I hope these answers help. Check out http://www.DenaroSports.com for many UFC vets and Special guests. They manage a lot of UFC talent.
Best of luck!

Hey, your blog is great! i live in Pittsburgh, Pa where there is a great market for events, yet the athletic commission has yet to approve the rules and regulations and says they should be ready by the end of the year. So of course i thought why not jump on a great opportunity to help the sport grow in my home town!
Your blog is a great first step to learning what it’s going to take, and has given me some great ideas. I just have a couple questions of you.
I plan to do small amateur shows at a club who is interested in hosting bi-monthly events.
I’d like to know more about how you can utilize sponsorships to help with costs of a show, what sort of sponsorships should i look for?
Also do you usually have to pay for on site EMTs?
Thanks alot for this wonderfully informative blog!

What about insurance? I understand that with LLC incorporation you are covering your business, but what sort of insurance coverage is necessary for such an event as mma competition?

i was reading the rules/regulations for promoters on the Ohio State Athletic Commission’s website and saw that the fight card must be submitted to the commission prior to the event so they can approve that the matchups are fair in regards to experience, yet in my own experience as a fighter both of my fights i was a last minute fill in (5 days notice first time and 4 days notice second time, but my opponent was literally changed less than an hour before my fight)… whats the deal there?
